World Featherweight Boxing Champion Davey Moore lost his title and
his life in Los Angelas on the 23rd March 1963, 2 days after being
knocked out in the 10th round by Sugar Ramos. 'Not I says the referee' 'Not us says the angry crowd' 'Not me says his manager' 'Not me says the gambling man' 'Not me says the boxing writer' 'Not me says the man whose fists laid him low' ____________________________ The Answer Is not just blowing in the wind :- The Rules of Boxing killed - Davey Moore, Becky Zerlentes & the Rest When Boxing Rules hail and elevate to winner the boxer knocking out and killing an opponent then the consequence is that boxers will inevitably be killed. Both 'Professional' and 'Amateur Olympic Style' boxers run the gauntlet of being killed in the ring using rules that allow them to be killed. The only difference is that 'Professional' boxers choose to get paid for putting their lives in danger whereas 'Amateur Olympic Style' boxers often unknowingly put their lives at risk lured by 'Believe in the Olympic Dream' honey pot marketing, and advice that 'the safety of boxers is paramount'. Close to 50 years later, despite Boxing Sport Rules being safety difficient, both Professional and Amateur boxers like Davey Moore and Becky Zerlentes continue to needlessly die. The Real Question:- If unsafe work practices are legislated against and discontinued, why in the 21st century aren't rules that openly invite boxers to knock out and kill their opponents outlawed? Amateur 'Olympic Style Boxing' participants need to be safeguarded through 'Duty Of Care' legislation that bans knockouts, and requires that specific chin protection headguards and well padded 16oz boxing gloves are mandatory safety gear. |
